Newfoundland Centre for Health Information

An immediate need to quickly develop and deliver health practitioner training

Professional Petroleum Data Management Association

Converting pre-existing course content into online courseware

The Newfoundland Centre for Health Information (NLCHI) had an immediate need to retain health records from previous learners, and quickly develop and deliver new SCORM compliant Personal Health information training to three types of health system decision-makers.

They knew they needed to change LMS providers and re-develop the course to increase interactivity. Because learning content differed among stakeholders, there had to be group restrictions on who could access what content, and administrators needed role-defined restrictions to meet privacy rules in different jurisdictions. And all this needed to happen in 7 weeks!

NLCHI provides quality information to health professionals, the public, researchers and health system decision-makers.

To ensure the consistency of the validity of the new course, the logical flow of learning within the new course was developed to match the flow of the old course. The graphics, self-assessment and the interactivity with the graphics were maintained using the Storyline authoring tool.

The development of the registration and certification process using BaseCorp’s SkillBuilder®Learning Management System was customized to allow for the integration with employee ID’s from each of the 8 stakeholders.

Lastly, our software developers analyzed and cleaned up the historical user database received from NLCHI. We ensured that required records were maintained, while cleaning and discarding confusing or redundant data.

Within the tight time frame required, the BaseCorp team bridged the gap from the old to the new training program for NLCHI, provided group-based restrictions, and kick started a new three year partnership with a health care provider on the “Rock.”

Instructional designers at the Professional Petroleum Data Management Association (PPDM) wanted to leverage their time and money by converting pre-existing content into online courseware. Their current LMS, however, was too limiting for their needs, and couldn’t help them sell their courses internationally.

PPDM is a global, not-for-profit society within the petroleum industry. It provides leadership for the professionalization of petroleum data management through education and certification professional development programs.

BaseCorp’s SkillBuilder® Learning Content Management System (LCMS) lets clients create, edit, and publish their own pages of content using the templates provided. Beth, their instructional designer, appreciated the quick training we gave her so that she was soon comfortable preparing the content for her team.

BaseCorp’s project management team met with PPDM’s Leslie and Beth to configure member pricing in the learning management system (LMS) and customize the international registration process.

Within a matter of months, the transition to the new LMS and LCMS gave PPDM the cost savings their needed to prepare a robust training program and begin generating revenue through the sale of four courses to their globally-dispersed clients.
